After being inspired initially from the shadows that she observed in the grasses of trees and the shadows she saw on the trees, she set out to create a method that didn't depict the subject in a 2-dimensional image. The object has been transformed into it's own representation which is based an interpretation by the artist. This works best when working with living things or items that are perishable like people or fruits. Alexa Meade's distinctive style of painting that is extremely ephemeral nature, is apparent. The only work of her art to survive is the photograph. Photography and painting techniques are tightly coordinated, resulting in a two-dimensional, flat space which achieves trompe-l'oeil. Only certain elements of the picture, like the hair or eyes, show the 3D dimension. Meade can sometimes incorporate her painting into the environment around her and allows them to interact within the world of their own. The result is a blurring of the lines between painting, photography and installation.
