She has covered sports for major outlets across the globe. Her tenure at The Washington Post was spent covering multiple Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis, football and basketball. Nichols joined ESPN at the beginning of 2004. She worked for nine years there, earning two Emmy Awards. She also appeared on the most popular shows on ESPN such as SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. During this time Nichols reported on TNT's NBA broadcasts, including the regular season, playoffs, and the All-Star broadcast teams. Also, she reported for TBS reporting on golf and baseball broadcasts, and Final Four broadcasts on CBS. Only a woman has been chosen from more than two hundred nominees in the long history of the award.
